Have you ever replied or forwarded an email only to find that your signature is a different color or size than the rest of the message?

That can look very unprofessional when sending it on without correcting the format of the text.

There are a few ways to fix the text so that it matches everything else, but rather than fumbling through the menus only to find that the color is still off, you can use the very cool feature of Microsoft Outlook 2007 and above, called the Format Painter.

Here is a video of how to use this useful tool to quickly reformat any text to match the format of any other text you want.

MS Excel Tricks: Fast AutoFill

By · Comments (0)

Have you ever needed to fill an entire Row or Column with a Formula or a series of numbers, letters, etc.?

Usually, you would need to grab the small box (the Autofill box), in the corner of the active cell, and drag it all the way down the column to fill in all of the required values.

Well, there is a really quick way to do this, when you have hundreds or even thousands of rows to fill in. Rather than dragging the Autofill box, just double-click on it and it will automagically fill in all of the cells down the column or across the rows for you. Done!!

Here is a video tutorial showing this in action, but a description of it is below for those that don’t have time for the video:

Here is another FREE program that I have used for many years.

Have you ever seen an animated movie, like Toy Story, Cars, Shrek and so on?

Those movies were made with a similar software package that costs thousands of dollars. Well, Blender is actually an extremely powerful program that is absolutely capable of creating movies of the same quality, but it is completely free!

Because it is free, many professionals dismiss it as an inferior program that couldn’t possibly compete with the likes of Maya, 3DS Max and others. It simply is not true. Here is some proof of what Blender can do, and these were done by people who are not even in the industry.

1st – Elephant’s Dream: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFQxRd0isAQ

2nd – Big Buck Bunny: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSGBVzeBUbk

3rd – Sintel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRsGyueVLvQ&hd=1

That is not to say that there isn’t a significant learning curve, because there is, but there is a wealth of support and tutorials and books and the like to get you up to speed. It runs on ALL major operating systems too, such as Windows, Snow Leopard (Apple) and Linux, as well as some others.

Here is the Blender 3D website: http://www.blender.org/

I really enjoy this program and wish that I had more time to use it. Hopefully one of you will find it useful.

Enjoy!!

Free Art Program – Paint.Net

By · Comments (0)

I have been meaning to share a couple of FREE programs that I use quite often. The first one is Paint.net. This was originally meant to be a replacement for Microsoft’s own Paint program, but it has grown to be a very powerful program in it’s own right.

The home page is: http://www.getpaint.net/

You can download it here: http://www.dotpdn.com/files/Paint.NET.3.5.8.Install.zip

The forums are here: http://forums.getpaint.net/

They have great forums and tutorials to get you started. It’s not as powerful as Adobe Photoshop, but it is also not as difficult to learn. I use it at work all the time.

I will write about the other program in a separate post.

Enjoy!!

Save Early and Save Often

By · Comments (0)

Save Early and Save Often, is a motto that I will frequently state, whenever someone tells me that they lost significant work, due to some unforeseen circumstance. In almost every program you might use, there is a SAVE option, in the FILE menu, but there is a quicker way to save your work, without leaving the keyboard.

To save your document, spreadsheet, email or what have you, just press:
Ctrl & S

This will save your work quickly, so that you can continue working without fear of loosing your hard earned progress. You can NEVER save enough, so use it all the time.
